We ran a book fundraiser campaign to help raise awareness about Female Genital Mutilation with FGM survivor, Sadia Hussein, author of Hidden Scars of FGM last year.
Sadia Hussein is an FGM survivor from Wardei community in Tana River County in Kenya who is fighting for women’s rights and to eradicate harmful cultures especially FGM, child marriages, teenage pregnancies, rape, etc. She is the coordinator of Dayaa Women’s Group, a community-based organisation composed of women who have undergone FGM and Child Marriage survivors. She was recognised and fated as a National Heroine by the State in 2019 by the President of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and also awarded Young Achievers Award by The Anti FGM Board in 2018.
See Sadia give a summary of her book.
The campaign was to get 50 pre-ordered copies of her book, Hidden Scars of FGM to be sent over to Ireland for €24 each which would include postage from Kenya.
We ran our Hidden Scars of FGM book fundraiser from August but unfortunately didn’t reach 50 pre-orders, so we informed all those who have donated that we have transferred whatever funds we raised to Sadia. See below post for transparency.
Hope our next fundraiser is more successful. Please don’t forget to raise awareness about FGM as much as you can.
